Rita Avendano is the Leeza Care Advocate for Leeza’s Place at WellMed in San Antonio, Texas.  Before being blessed into the Leeza’s Place family, Rita worked for Texas AgriLife Extension where she taught nutrition to the community of San Antonio.  Here Rita was responsible to educating people about healthier eating, shopping strategies and increasing fruits and vegetable consumption along with increasing food safety and hand washing practices.  Rita was responsible for recruiting her programs, and volunteers, and she was responsible for implementing and evaluating the nutrition education programs provided.  Rita worked for the Extension office for more than 5 years.

Rita was born and raised in San Antonio.  She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, UTSA,  where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health in the summer of 2003.  A few years later she completed her Master's Degree in Health and Wellness Promotion also from UTSA. 

Rita has two wonderful children Daniel and Madison.
